Brief History Council 15
Council 15 was formed in december of 2001, at the end of the first year of independent councils. Its members came basically from Haiti. Some came from the Dominican Republic, a handful from other countries like Chile, Iceland and Colombia.

Its orientor, its general coordinator, was and is the Icelander, Petur Gudjonsson, who has been in the Humanist Movement almost from its very beginnings, for over thirty years.

He is the author of several books that are used in our council and have been translated into a few languages, among them being, Living Coherently, To Live is an Art, and Finding God.

Initially the council was formed with about 14 thousand active members. Presently                       ( september 2003) we are close to 40 thousand with over 600 thousand  supporters.

Where we are:   Presently  we are in the following countries ( and within each country, often in many locations):

  • Mexico,
  • Guatemala,
  • El Salvador,
  • Nicaragua,
  • US,
  • Canada,
  • Haiti,
  • Dominican Republic
  • Colombia
  • Ecuador
  • Bolivia
  • Chile
  • Iceland
  • Belgium
  • Switzerland

Where we plan to be at the end of the year:

( In addition to the above we are starting groups in the following countries):

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Spain
  • France
  • Italy
  • Germany
  • The Chech Republic
  • Poland
  • Finland
  • Sweden
  • Norway
  • Denmark
  • England
  • Turkey
  • Egypt
  • Ethiopia
  • Kenya
  • Tanzania
  • Nigeria
  • India
  • Vietnam
  • Honk Kong
  • Japan

This is a year of great expansion. Next year we will also set up more groups in the US and in Russia.

Next year, a year of great qualification

Next year we plan to qualify our structures so that they can work independently because at the end of next year we expect to “close” the council for then enough general coordinators should be working independently in the different countries.  ( When a general coordinator has generated at least 10 other general coordinators he/ she closes their council and the new general coordinators take their seat in the Humanist Assembly along with general coordinators from other councils. Now, in desember the first general coordinators from Council 15 will leave the council, take their seat in the Assembly and work independently. It is expected that those that will be independent in desember 2003 are five Haitian friends.).

We plan to hold many workshops all over the planet, many retreats and seminars next year

Meetings of the coordinators of  Council 15:

There are only 3 meetings left before we close the council:

Jan 4-6  2004..................... Kalikoo Beach, Haiti

July 4-6 2004 .................... Berlin

Jan 4-6   2005 .................... Washington, D.C.

Hopefully, many new coordinators, heads of lines  and general coordinators will be able to attend these meetings
